Scott and I did Pioneer trek again this year. 4 years older, we both were feeling it. Of course it was in the 90's the first day with 75 % humidity. We had reporters there when we started and the friends of the library put signs out in Silver city welcoming the pioneer trek. It was a nice touch. We had quite a few people quit from heat exhaustion. We camped in our hay field the first night and were able to take some of the very sick ones up to our house to get feeling better in the a/c. I did have to call the ambulance for one lady though. She went to the hospital very overheated. All in all it was fun. We did a couple of creek crossings. One was 10 feet down and 10 feet up the other side. It was a lot of fun and added a lot to the trek. We are glad we did it, but I told them not to ask again for another 8 years! This is our family starting out. We had 8 kids and 2 babies. They were not twins, but were adopted by our family when their parents died. We were all given real pioneer names to walk for.

We had one son that really got into it and made himself a tent. He was one of the best pullers! We ended at a little Lutheran church near our house. All in all we went about 18 miles. As we got in sight of the church our Stake leaders started ringing the steeple bell. It was so cool and brought tears to my eyes. Then we had testimony meeting in that church. We were told that there was history with this church and the Mormon church. In 1903 the mormons asked to use the church to hold meetings in and were denied entrance into it. Our trek was the first time Mormons had ever met there. It was pretty cool! More pic's to come.
